Blender 4.0+ add-on
One material per collection, not per object
Set a material on a collection and every mesh in it wears it, including objects added later. Clear it and each object goes back to the material it had. Made for sun studies, clay renders and design options on large imported models.
What it does
A material per collection
Pick a material on the collection in the sidebar. Every mesh object in it takes it, and objects moved in later pick it up as you work.
Reversible
Clearing an override puts every object back on the material it had before, so nothing about the model is lost.
Choose the slot
Write into a chosen material slot on each object, so objects with several materials keep the others.
Sub-collections
Include Sub-collections carries the override down the hierarchy, and it is in charge of everything beneath it until cleared. Exclude from Parent Override opts a sub-collection out.
Collection instances
Enter Collection Instances also paints the geometry inside instanced collections. Rhino2Blender blocks keep their per-layer materials.
Collection Material Manager
Ctrl+M opens a table of every collection: material, slot, scope toggles, object count and sync state, with live search, Sync All and Clear All.
