Getting started
Layer Comp brings Photoshop's selections and layers to Blender's compositor. You point at the image: lasso a window, wand a sky, drop a person onto the floor. What you make ends up as ordinary compositor nodes you can see and wire.
Requirements
- Blender 5.0 or newer. Developed and verified on 5.2 LTS.
- Works with Cycles and EEVEE renders, and with any image the compositor shows.
Installation
- In Blender, Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ Get Extensions ▸ Install from Disk, and pick the Layer Comp zip. Or drag the zip onto Blender.
- If you had an earlier version, remove it first.
Where the tools are
Everything runs in the Image Editor, usually while it shows the Viewer Node image. Open the sidebar (N) and you'll find two tabs: Select and Layers.
Your first selection
- Render, or open a scene whose compositor has a Viewer node.
- In an Image Editor showing
Viewer Node, press W and click the sky. - Select a node in the compositor, such as Hue/Saturation, and click Use Selection as Factor in Select ▸ Compositor.
- Only the sky changes. Grow, Feather and Invert are now inputs on a node in your tree.
Your first layer
- In the Layers tab, click + and pick a cutout PNG.
- The add-on puts a
CS Layersnode after your Render Layers node, with the render as the bottom layer. - Press G, R or S over the image to move, rotate or scale the layer, as you would an object.
